Training available at Caulaincourt

We run a wide range of training sessions, courses and workshops throughout the year as well as offering our training pen for hire.

Group training, classes and one to one sessions are available on various types of training grounds and dependant on the season. Below are some of our courses and training sessions, if you would like to find out more about anything not covered or would like to talk to us about a bespoke one to one session then please get in touch.

Beginners Course

Our beginners course consists of 6 one hour sessions over a six

week period. These classes are run by our trainers Sylvie Smith, Neil Bracey, Julia Sheldrake, and Sam Daniels.

The six sessions are structured to help handler and dog develop basic training skills such as heelwork, steadiness, sit/stay and recall. This is all done around other dogs in a controlled environment. The training will be adapted to suit each individual dog, that way the dog can learn, whilst also having fun.

Foundation Course

Our foundation course is perfect for dogs and handlers that have completed a beginner training course, and are looking to progress towards our more advanced gundog courses but may need a bit more time to work on core skills and obedience.

On the foundation course you and your dog will learn how to walk to heel and behave correctly around other dogs and handlers. We will then progress to walking off lead and performing stay in place and recalls. For those that want to we may also start to look at the basics of retrieving.

Intermediate Course

Our Intermediate course is aimed at dogs and handlers that have already achieved a good level of training, but now want to polish their skills.

The Intermediate course sessions are structured to help handler and dog further develop training skills such as heelwork, steadiness, sit/stay and recall around distractions. We'll also move on to more advanced retrieving principles.

Advanced Course

Our advanced course is perfect for dogs and handlers wanting to work on the more technical side of retrieving.

In the spring time we have access to a fantastic marsh area, with reeds, dykes and a river.  In the summer months we run walked up training days in sugar beet on dummies and cold game to ensure handlers and dog are prepared to the highest standard required for the field trial season.

Spaniel Sessions

This 5 or 6 week training course is dedicated to working with Spaniels. There are two courses available.

The Intermediate course is for dogs that already have a basic level of obedience in place, and will help you and your dog to develop the unique hunting, quartering and retrieving skills that Spaniels are renowned for.

Some Intermediate sessions take place in our training pen.

The Youngsters course is for dogs over 6 months old and looking to put in a good foundation. The main concentration will be on creating a good bond between dog and handler, and also very basic hunting and retreiving.

Pet Dog Training

Whilst most of our training sessions are geared towards gundogs, some training is available for pet dogs as well. Please contact us for more information.

One to One Training Sessions

We offer bespoke one to one sessions at any level. If you're just starting out with the basics or you have a more specific requirement for either gundog work or general obedience then we can help.

One to one sessions are charged by the hour and normally take place at our dedicated train gound. We can also provide one to one training at a preferred external location however this does effect the hourly rate and a suitable loaction would need to be approved.

HPR Sessions

The Hunt Point Retrieve (HPR) group of gundogs is a versatile group of twelve breeds ranging from the fast and flashy German Shorthaired Pointer, the endurance of the Italian Spinone and Bracco, to the almost setter-like elegance of the Large Munsterlander.

Most HPR breeds stem from continental Europe where shooting and hunting traditions are very different to the typical English driven game shoot.

The HPRs’ ways of working and training are therefore adapted to suit the needs of a dog expected to find, flush and then retrieve their handler’s dinner, perhaps just enough for one pot after a long day in the field covering vast distances.

Working Tests and Trails for HPRs are also designed to as far as possible test these abilities. The joy of achieving an elusive HPR with your own dog, understanding their ways of working, and honing those natural instincts is very addictive and hugely rewarding.

If you're interested in booking an HPR sessions then please get in touch.
